Your 2010 Winners!

The winners of this year's Children's Book Award were announced on 23 November at our annual ceremony at the City Hall. It was a great day for everyone, and your favourite authors had an extra reason to be happy!

The overall winner was Morris the Mankiest Monster, by Giles Andreae and Sarah McIntyre. A tale of a wonderfully disgusting, yet lovable monster!

Sarah McIntyre, who was there to collect the prize, was clearly over the moon, and judging by the reaction of the crowd so were all those who had read the book!

Morris also scooped the prize for Best Picture Book. With Don't Dip your Chips in your Drink Kate! receiving the award for Highly Commended, and also being chosen as the Community Libraries Favourite Book. While The Great Dog Bottom Swap (one of our more colourful entries!) won the Commended prize.

Our winners in the Picture Book Category show how important slime, mess, and most importantly fun, is to our young readers in Sheffield!

The Shorter Novel Category winner was Mark Haddon's tale of extra-terrestrial adventure, Boom!, (another popular choice!). How Kirsty Jenkins Stole the Elephant, by Elen Caldecott received the prize for Highly Commended, while Martin G. Naylor won the Commended prize for Secrets of Hightower.

The Longer Novel Category was won by Michael Grant, for his book, Gone; a sinister story, where children are faced with unravelling the mystery behind the disappearance of all people over the age of 15. Anne Cassidy was also Highly Commended for her longer novel The Dead House, while Life Interrupted, by Damian Kelleher won the Commended prize.

A massive thank you to every single one of you who made your contribution to the 2010 Sheffield Children's Book Award, by reading, and voting. It was wonderful to see so many young readers at the ceremony. We hope that you enjoyed reading this year's titles, and here's a reminder to keep your eyes peeled for the anouncement of our 2011 Book Award shortlist!
